Multiple Hats

Just when Doug and I think there is a free weekend of no call at the hospital, a church meeting or a sporting event something tends to fill that "empty" space on the calendar. One particular event confirmed our evening a few months back, Doug's 20th highschool reunion. It doesn't even seem possible that it had been that long since he stormed the campus as an almighty Mountain View Toro. We arrived at Rustler's Roost with pretty low expectations. For starters, I knew the food wasn't very appetizing eating there at least 20 years ago myself. It's more or less chuck wagon style barbeque. Ick in my book. We walked up surrounded by the lovely red and blue colors and some good old 80's music to set the tone. Thankfully we all wore name tags "just in case" and it's probably a good thing, because honestly Doug is terrible at remembering a face. A name he can grasp. We mingled for a little and of course the usual "groups" that you hang with become familiar and you stick with your people. Unfortunately, most of Doug's close friends weren't in attendance. Facebook seems to take the excitement out of anything it seems anyhow. Luckily, I make good company... ha. So, Doug's 20th has officially been checked off the list. Switching gears, this weekend was our ward trunk or treat. We had some stiff competition and Doug wasn't even going to dress up until he heard people were going to try and out do last year's costume. After lots of debate, we both agreed on him being a mad scientist and me, a crazy patient.

The perk of being a doctor is having access to several things we needed in order to make our costume work.

1. Hospital gown
2. IV bag (donated by one of the sweet nurses)
3. IV pole
4. Syringes
5. Lab coat

Doug doesn't claim he is crafty, but truthfully I beg to differ. It was his idea to get an IV bag and inject it with glow sticks. I have to say, the effects were pretty cool. Several of the little kids were a tad frightened, especially with his nasty teeth!

Jared decided to go as the Heath Ledger version of the joker. I should have taken a photo of him towards the end of the night, because the makeup looked a little better. Yet, still creepy.

I have to say I was pretty impressed with the creativity of my little boys this year. They both wanted to play characters from the movie "Up" After a few thrift stores, we were able to pull it together very well. Meet Mr. Fredrickson and Russell. Don't they make a great pair?

It was fun to see all of our various ward members dressing up. My favorite of the night was brother Brady. He dressed up as a worker from a convinent mart. Genius in my book!

Last but not least, the Hunter's were our stiff competition and from the looks I think we both equally did pretty good, however after the votes went around we were claimed the 1st place winner. Better luck next year friends!! Sadly, we already have an idea and it's gonna be good!

Best Sunday of The Year

Next to spring, the beginning of fall is one of my favorite times of the year. Closed windows can once again be opened to allow the fresh air circulate your home. Oranges, browns, and yellows become part of your decor, and jeans are again comfortable to wear without breaking a sweat.

Aside from all of the wonderful things I love about fall (eh em......especially, Halloween) I look forward to a special Sunday that brings a smile to everyone's face and a tear to your eye. It is a Sunday where I believe it's like the angels in heaven sing like above. I love watching the facial expressions and different personalities of each one of my boys. One serious, one spunky, and one in between. I am especially thankful for primary teachers and leaders who make the primary program possible. I know countless hours go into writing, practicing and teaching all the children their individual parts. Not to mention have a TON of patience throughout the year. So, a special thanks to my boys leaders who teach them the songs that echo through my house all year long. Until next year!

Tapering Down

We ran our LAST 22.5 miles today in 3 hours 30 minutes. How do we feel?
I think the photo speaks for itself!
