Boasting

Today I just have to boast a little about what I accomplished. I admit I rarely shop at Marshall's or TJ Maxx for that matter. However, since it was next door to my stop at Target I decided to browse in the store. It's always dangerous when you are "just looking" in my opinion. You really are just setting yourself up for spending money. Having said that there were a couple of clearance items in front of the store so I decided to pick through a few. To my surprise I found a king size quilt for $23 and in the new blue color that I absolutely love. I placed it in my basket for satisfaction and decided I would think about it. I have been wanting a new quilt/bedspread to put on my bed for months now. I have had the same denim cover on my bed for the past 10 years we have been married. So, yes it is definitely time for a change and umm denim.........well is just slightly not really in right now. I have been getting a number of magazines in the mail and have found a bedspread that I loved, but due to the price tag of a merely $299 I have just thrown it aside. And decided to put that dream on the back burner until today.

I found some more throw pillows (blue and chocolate brown) to match as I was walking around the store. Remember I was only there to look! After meandering the store for a bit I decided it was just to dang good of a deal to pass up. So I left the store with a new king sized quilt and two throw pillows for $55! Can you believe that?? After I got home I immediately striped my heavy nasty denim cover off and viola whole new makeover!

My new bed!

I then decided to take off my old bed skirt and unpick it to make another one. Since denim and this new one really didn't go. I went through my old fabric stash and was happy to find a ton of white muslin left over from Taylor's duvet cover I made her about 8 years ago. It happened to be just the right amount I needed for my bed skirt. Perfect!! Some of you may remember (Tasha) me making this and ironing on these pink flowers to the top. (If not see below). Well, sadly she still has it on her bed along with the pathetic yellow bed skirt I made her years ago! It still works, but you can imagine how tired of the decor I am. All I can say is thank goodness for sewing 101 lessons from Tasha. She has no idea how much I owe her for teaching me straight lines and basic sewing. I am no seamstress nor can I do embroidery, but I can sew a few straight lines now and again.

So all in one day I have a new makeover in my room. I am also excited to have enough left over to make some curtains for the window to replace the old ones! Woo hoo for me!!

I'm glad you decided to keep it. It really does look great. Doesn't feel so good to be done witht he denim? You deserved a makeover in your "loveshack"! You had madeover every room in your house escept that one so it is noce you treated you and Doug to a new look.

I can't believe you were running a sweatshop this afternoon and made the bedskirt in an hour. You amaze me. By the way only ten more months to teach me your sewing talent.

Oh I forgot something. I thought you did the flowers on the duvet when you moved here. I thought you did them when you borrowed the flower stamp, sponge thing for the walls. I thought you traced the flowers from the sponge. Who knows maybe I dreamed that, but I do like Taylor's room it fits her to a T.

Oh, you know what I think I did. I did iron some flowers on another quilt I did back in NOLA though. I guess I am getting a little forgetful and old these days. And you KNOW how to sew. How bout you show me how to make a koolaid purse?

Jenny,
I think I have the same quilt on my bed in sage green from TJ Maxx, but I got it for 40.00 last fall. You got the way better deal. You must be totally on my brain wave because I want a blue and brown room so bad!

I am so glad you are sewing! We both owe it all to Mindy J! I had my machine for two years and we weren't speaking after my unfortunate incident trying to make a skirt, but after I moved to NOLA I was reinspired. Make sure to show us pictures! BTW, please post a pic of the halloween and Thanksgiving dresses you made for Taylor that year too! They were too cute! I am going to copy you and do something like that for Evie!

What a bargain! You gotta love that. I'm a little disturbed that you still had your denim comforter from when you were first married, but it's kind of funny too. King sized comforters are so pricey it's too expensive to replace them. Do you guys have an IKEA anywhere nearby?

I wish I was handy with the sewing machine and whip up bed skirts and whatever else I needed, but no such luck.

very nice find. the highs I get from shopping is saving like 75% on things that I would buy anyway. We also upgraded our bedding this last year from our original look and I feel so grown up.

I learned how to sew from my mother-in-law. Unfortunately, I didn't use any of what I learned and now I don't even know how to run the sewing machine.

Yes, going in just to look is never a good thing. That's the only time I ever seem to actually find anythign I want to buy. I glad you caved in and bought your new bedding--what a fantastic deal. It really would have been a shame to leave such a cute bedspread in the store!

I'm also impressed that you sat down and made a new bedskirt. Now, that's determination. I love it! I would always feel like I wanted to do something like that, I would buy the stuff to do it (since my fabric stash is small) and then it would sit there for weeks, months or years, even, until I actually got motivated to drag out my sewing machine. Good for you. I love people who have an idea and then just do it. So admirable!

Your bed looks great. I hope you post another picture when you get your curtains made.

Awesome! I saw that same quilt here in my TJ Maxx and wanted it, but couldn't justify it so I didn't. Good for you! It looks great!

No way, I have the same bedspread! (From TJ Maxx, of course.) I'm in the process of changing our bedroom to blue and chocolate. Great minds think alike.
