Five For Friday

ASU Institute Building
(very AZish look at the landscaping)

1. Last week when we found out we were going to the ASU game, Doug and I immediately headed out to the campus bookstore. Even though I never actually attended ASU, I was on the dance-line there for two years. How--you may ask? They allowed me to just take the band class required to be on the squad. Kinda weird if you think about it. Anyways, driving through campus flooded back memories of going to institute dances. Of course back in the day, the institute building was really old and pretty run down. I was amazed when I saw that they had a new building. Not many campuses (unless you are in Utah) have their very own building on the premises. It makes me excited to think my kids will have a seminary across the street from their school when we move back. Here and other places they have early morning seminary, which isn't bad just more convenient for the parents :)

2. I almost banned Sonic up until a few weeks ago. I think they would have lost one of there best customers--ha. Until........ours finally jumped the band wagon and are doing the half price drinks. I don't take the kids everyday, but twice a week after picking up Taylor we head out to the drive-in for treats. We all have satisfied tummies for under $4. Not too shabby! The only bummer part is it's from 2-4pm which means, I have to wait nearly all day to get a drink.

Jared is making some sorta freaky face--go figure
(maybe a little excited about the grape slush?)

3. Since football season is over and Taylor finished up basketball camp we have literally had nothing after school (other than Taylor's dance). Doug has also not been able to moonlight until he gets some mandatory certification, which means he is home after work. I know I have complained about how early the sun goes to bed, but I have to admit it is nice to have the kids bathed and fed by 6:30pm. This week we have done several things as a family. It's definitely nice for a change!

Doug playing "chicken feet" dominoes with the kids
Bones enjoys family time as well.
He is trained to sit right by the back door on his mat.

4. It's been three months since I have cut my boys hair. I originally started growing it out for our Halloween costume and then just plain got lazy. I really LOATHE cutting their hair. It's a screaming battle. After Halloween I decided to try and grow it out for the "California" long hair look. In my opinion, my boys hair just wasn't cut for that look. Actually, Luke probably could have gotten away with it since he has natural curl. My other boys were looking like helmet heads so I butchered them yesterday. I secretly think Jared was happy to have his "spiky" hair back rather than having to comb it everyday.

The boys loving the open windows with their new haircuts!

5. I really ho-hummed about this last piece of information, so hopefully I won't step on my friends toes by doing it. I didn't want to spill Angie's exciting news for her about their new house (hence why I am choosing the backside) Granted this photo was taken a few weeks ago, and sadly their house won't be done until after Christmas. I think the Gordon's were hoping to be in (as would I), but it doesn't look like it will be happening until the first of the year. They just barely put their house on the market *sniff, sniff* and are having to be out and about more (for showing purposes) Any of you who ever had to sell a house know exactly what I mean--leaving on a whim so someone can "look". Add that stress keeping it clean, being 8.5 months pregnant (AND NO STILL DOESN'T LOOK IT) you have an MIA Angie. I would have added in a belly photo of her, but I am not sure I could sneak one by. I will say she looks darling as ever and still can walk faster than me on our walks. I have no idea how--she continues to amaze me! I am still working on her to update her blog, I'll keep trying.........

Gordon's brick home--you would never find this beauty in AZ *sigh*

What a gorgeous home! Cool they preserved the trees nearby the house! Thanks for the Angie update!

Our Sonic (the one in my little suburb) doesn't do the Happy Hour drinks either, and they don't offer diet in a kind that I like so I seldom partake!

I'm so with you on the hair, btdt recently with my boys too!

Love the 5 for Friday! I am with you on the up side of it getting dark earlier. Most week nights, the kids are all jammied up and ready for bed by the time Brian walks through the door after 7pm. Then we sit down to dinner, and just chill together until bed time. We have had more relaxed family time, as well. Isn't it nice?

Angie's home looks beautiful and I do wish she would update her blog! She has such a cute little family and she's missing out on documenting her gorgeous belly!

Brian just cut the boys hair this last week and I had almost forgotten how handsome they are! Funny!

Love the boys new haircuts! I love it when my boys (Ben is included in this) have clean new do's!

The getting dark at 5 thing gets so old!! We have been playing more games together as a family too, because of it.

Nice cozy family time is the BEST! Enjoy it while you can. That house is going to be gorgeous! I actually miss seeing brick homes (loved them in Austin). I don't miss the wood fences, though. I need to cut my boys' hair too. Ugh! It's been a while, and i just buzzed the sides/back & only trimmed the top, so now they are lookin' pretty shabby (or is it shaggy like from scooby doo?) ha ha

Early morning seminary isn't just inconvenient for parents, it means making a choice between athletics that practice before school and seminary. When you choose athletics you have to do homeschool seminary. Not THAT is inconvenient. I can't even fathom my life as a teenager was so cush I had release time.

What a good little doggie snuggled up on the mat. The first thing I thought when I saw the picture was, I can't believe the dog isn't in the thick of things trying to chew of the game. He is still a puppy isn't he? You are a miracle worker!

That house is beautiful - tell Angie we want to see pics from the front! No need to be shy, remember I posted pics of my friend's 7,000+ square ft house!

I have never heard of Sonic Happy Hour. The one here definitely does not participate.

The website you asked for in your thank you note is www.sallyjean.com
great stuff!

Loved your Christmas card - how clever!

Love that house! I forgot about the old institute building. I remember going to a few of those dances-funny memories were made there. I too love the Sonic happy hour-it makes me happy, but I'd be a lot happier if they offered it between 9 and 11! Ha!

It was early morning all the way when I lived in Vegas. Release time is so nice, scripture study at 6 am can be painful to stay away.

I love to play chicken feet with the kids. We haven't had the dominoes our forever, I'll have to do that this weekend.

I dread the haircut thing too. Funny since I cut hair all the time but these boys of mine egg it on and it takes me longer. Go figure your own kids would drive you nuts. Mine are due too, I'm trying to hold out until closer to the baby so that I wont need to do it right after.

Haircuts are a struggle here too - Brig finally has his hair grown long enough that it looks good and MOST of us LOVE it - but it takes a lot of patience to get it there.

Happy Hour at Sonic is the BOMB! I love it!!!!!

Family time is precious - glad you've had some - the craziness of life tends to get in the way most of the time!

Great to talk to you today - miss you and counting the days until you are here!

I'm trying. I'm trying. It just takes me awhile to do things lately. I have to admit my typing speed has gotten worse over the years so to post some grand post takes quite a while. I have a draft started so keep checking my blog.
