2008 seemed so far off in the distance when we moved from New Orleans to San Antonio for Doug's Orthopedic training. But on the other hand it flew by WAY faster than I imagined. I found it hard to sit and jot my thoughts on our home, San Antonio, for the last six years. So, instead of documenting through writing I did it via the photos I came across. Some of the things I listed I most certainly won't miss, however it's interesting that once you leave a place special to your heart, the buggy things don't seem so buggy anymore. In no particular order, here are some of the things I discovered and will always remember...
4. Freaky rain storms out of the blue.
9. Humidity. Yes, I did just say that. There is something about humidity and your skin.
10. Making goodies for Doug's youth Sunday school class (he has been a teacher for 3 years).
14. Playing blitz with the Wirthlin's and ALWAYS loosing. I kid you not, I suck at that game. (I think that is why they enjoyed inviting me over to play).
24. The big boots at Northstar mall.24. The journey it took for Doug to become a doctor. It was hard at times, but the good out weighed the bad.
25. Seventh heaven sleep-overs.
26. Our babysitter Kirk.
27. Flores Country Store in Helotes, TX. Not too many restaurants have hats hanging from the ceiling. This is also where Willie Nelson made his big break.
28. Trash men that actually pick up your trash can and dump it. Hard labor. San Antonio is a little behind the times.
29. My boys will be lost without their Maryn.
30. Road construction EVERYWHERE. Ick. Currently the airport is a major mess.
31. Art the mailman. He is quite an interesting fellow. But, I have to give it to him how he knows most everyone. I'll admit once in a while it creeped me out. I'll never forget each time I saw him he always had a wet towel on his head to keep cool (he didn't want a photo with it on).
32. Haircuts by Sara. She moved on to Sacramento, I fear I won't find someone as good and cheap as her.
33. The San Antonio temple. It was neat to see a temple start from dirt and become a place to visit monthly.
34. Valero gas. I think San Antonio has some of the cheapest gas in the nation. I know AZ is higher than what we currently pay.
35. 85 cent refills at Valero, why I just discovered this about is month ago I will never know.
36. Crept Myrtl trees. (seen in above photo) I love the vivid colors and have 3 in my current back yard.
37. Our ward. Since the split there were several people I didn't get to know, however I still will really miss the people I did. It was a great ward.
38. The graffiti along Abe Lincoln Rd. Ha. This was a daily occurrence despite people cleaning it up.
39. Doug going on a hair strike. Look at that 80 flip. Oh, my!
40. Call at University Hospital. Not!
41. All day preschool for dirt cheap and only 1/2 mile from home!
42. Holidays with friends. We had such an awesome support system!
43. Learning that being a homeowner isn't always easy. One thing is for sure Doug taught himself to do many skills we never would have done living in a rental.
44. Winning an award for the best Christmas lights in our neighborhood.
45. Rudy's BBQ.
This list could really go on (and I may add to it if I can think of more things) This definitely represents our life here and the things I will truly miss.

Amazing how attached you become to the people and places we live all along knowing that its just another temporary phase of their training. Looks like there is a lot to miss but as for the shopping, well, I think your pretty covered in AZ! Good luck with the upcoming move!
Wow...what fantastic posts!! I just read your friendship one as well. I loved the pictures, you are so good at documenting. I am sure it is SO hard to be leaving so many great friends and memories behind. I am so glad you had such a great week, with so many nights out last week. Good for you, and good luck with the move! I am thinking of you!
What a neat post! It was fun going down memory lane with you, good luck with the move!!
These are great posts, Jenny. So fun to read over your memories with all the pictures sprinkled in. Good luck with the move -- it's got to seem pretty surreal to be all packed up!
I really can't believe your time in San Antonio is at an end, but then I can believe it. Good luck with the move this week. I'm sure you and your family will be missed by many in San Antonio...and believe me....you will miss it more than you realized! :)
I'm just so sad for you as I read the last two posts. It must be so hard to dig up those roots even if you did know they were temporary when you planted them.
About buses...we made a similar change two years ago and the walking thing has been great.
if it eases your pain, i believe there is a champps sports bar in AZ :) good luck with your move, and i loved your post!
What great memories to take with you.
What great memories and such a change coming up. I remember last year when you were lamenting how stressful the coming year was going to be, and now it is gone! Life moves too fast, but you fill it up better than anyone!
Looking forward to 12 months from now when you list all that you love about your new town!
Great post, one to look back on for sure. It is funny to me that you dont' have heat in your house, but hey, I dont' have a/c.
Don't you love living in such a big diverse country that you will have big changes but still be home?
You guys sure have made the most of your time in San Antonio. I got all teary reading your previous post about Angie kidnapping you. You guys will miss each other, but I bet you have lots of plans for future trips together.
i love seeing all the pics. it is funny how moving away or getting rid of something brings back all the old memories about it. i love crape myrtles, too and wish i had them in my yard. great post!
That was awesome! I love all of the pictures. Your day is fast approaching. I'm sure you have been ready for days...you are so organized! Great memories. It is hard to leave so many good times/friends/memories. Yeah for having so many fun nights out. Good luck with the move.
what a long road. I was on some of the road with you. We are so happy for you both to finally be done. life will never be the same. what wonderful memories you will always treasure!
oh jenny i think this is the best way you can count your memories of this place where you have definately left a trace. you will probably be greatly missed, but how excited you must be to be close to family again and your new life....i can't wait to see your new surroundings.
Why did the time have to go by so fast? I'm glad we were able to make the most of the last few weeks. I'm glad you and the family were able to spend your last night in SA with us. Oh how I hated to walk upstairs this morning and wake you. I wanted to "accidently" over sleep so you wouldn't leave so early.
Thanks for the past six years. It has been a journey, one that, I believe, someone else had a hand in. It wouldn't have been the same without you. I can't wait to see you in a few weeks. I already miss you and you haven't even made it across the Texas border yet!! Love you tons. Call me.
Great documentation of memories made here. I'm so glad you will miss our 27 steps!!
Hello- Chuys.
I cannot believe y'all are leaving the great state of Texas. You must be sooo happy to be done. I'm very jealous!
it's so great that you could document this with all the photos!
What, no Chuy's on the list (did I miss it somewhere?) What a fabulous list Jenny. I'm sad and happy for you all at the same time. And Angie's comment made my heart hurt for you guys. Can't wait to see you land in AZ!!
Wow! What an awesome post!So lucky
to have all those memories (& pix!)
You did a great job! I wanted to cry thinking of all the things I would miss living where we are now, but then so excited about your new adventure! I never thought I would miss AZ as much as I do! Or maybe just all the great memories that it holds for me!
Can't wait to see new pictures of your move and new home!
Good luck Jenny! You have documented so well. This is exciting! I'll be thinking of you.
What a great way to document your memories!!! I love all the sites and places you put down - makes me want to go there to visit all those great places. you will have so much fun in your new place, plus you'll be closer to CA! We have tons of crepe myrtle trees here :)
What a wonderful list of favorites Jenny! It must be bitter sweet to be moving, yet leaving behind such fun people and community. I don't know when you're moving, but I hope everything goes well. It's so draining, and exciting all at the same time! Keep that beautiful smile Jenny! Good Luck!
Being that it's been about a week since you posted last I'm assuming it's safe to guess that you are now in AZ. Welcome home! Hey, I didn't see a picture of Chuy's on your list. Yeah for you guys!
What a great tribute to your life and times in San Antonio! I loved your memories via pictures...it is funny the things you miss!
