Word Of The Week

querulously
:
/adv. /with complaint. grumblingly, huffily or irascibly. peevishly. petulantly. testily. acting sour, whiny or thin-skinned.

I am beginning to think we are the family that borrows cars.
Meet the Ruby Suby!

querulously /adv./ 1. I didn't mean to be so vague on my public transportation. I feel as though my posts have turned quite querulous not only for the month of February, but now into March! I normally take my kids to school in the morning because 7:03am seems a little over the top for elementary students (they don't start until 7:40am). I couldn't have been more thankful for school transportation last week since we have been solely relying on it each morning. It hasn't been all that bad other than getting up a tad earlier. Friday my dilemma of getting Jared and Taylor to point A and B was solved thanks to the help of great friends. Angie trekked out and picked up Taylor from school to take her to dance & softball practice. Ellice offered us their extra car so I wouldn't be without and could take Jared to baseball practice. Who knew one item would be such a blessing until you are without one.

Dogs can't speak.
But, if I had a word to describe not going for a walk querulous would be best.
It's his only outing of the day. Sorry Bones.

querulously /adv./ 2. Our morning ritual for the most part is the same. I get the kids ready and out the door to school followed by placing the boys in the jogger for our exercise. Luke is my child who thrives on schedules and when we deter from it, things sometimes don't end nicely. We woke up to morning thunderstorms and heavy rain, obviously to wet for our ritual walk. Luke being Luke querulously came up to me and said, "Mom why aren't we walking today?" I explained to him the obvious weather conditions. And in the most ebullient voice proclaimed, "BUT it's only a little rain and we can wear a jacket." Luckily, Little Einsteins saved me. (one of his favorite programs) I am forever grateful for the Disney Channel.

querulously /adv./ 3. Last night we sat down for our family council to do our weekly schedule. It's no secret that life is busy with kids (we all can attest to that). This week seems to be much more than I bargained for. I have been known to be a little more querulously than normal about my church calling. I am not sure if I am checked out mentally or it's the whole moving soon thing. At any rate, I have absolutely no excuse. I am required to do a weekly email and attend enrichment night to help set/clean up for the activities. Easy right? Unfortunately, it just adds more of my to do list this week. It never fails that these things occur before trying to leave town. I feel overwhelmed in guilt about borrowing our friends car (but thankful at the same time). Does that make sense? Bugged I am having to rent a car for our drive home and remind me why we signed two children up for baseball? I am beginning to think I am worse than my children with my querulous remarks.

querulously /adv./ 4. I rolled over querulously this morning remembering how much I detest "springing" ahead my clock. Who started day light savings anyways? One less hour of sleep or trying to get your kids on a schedule is hard. It seems ridiculous to me that now I am driving my children to school in the dark and when I try to get them to go to sleep at a decent hour it's still light. Oh, well such is life. It is the last time I will be changing the time. Arizona and Hawaii seem to only be the smart ones. Yippee!

This attire will be taking a back seat in a few days.

querulously /adv./ 5. Doug is a hard worker and rarely complains about getting up at the crack of dawn. I say rarely because last night was the first time Doug querulously spoke about work. He expressed how excited he was about the next two weekends just being able to veg and have no other responsibilities. (I beg to defer on that one...isn't looking for a house stressful?) Poor guy it is the first time in several months he has had an entire weekend off. I think it will be good for the whole family.

Hopefully we will be doing more of this next week.
I can already smell the orange blossoms!

blessing: much needed rain we are getting today.

Word Of The Week: Alacrity

Alacrity
/n./
cheerful readiness, promptness, or willingness; liveliness; briskness

Alacrity /n./ 1. Although I walk 6 days a week give or take alacrity (at least I would like to think I so) I still find myself dragging throughout the day. Perhaps the early morning wake-up call? You would think sleeping for at least 6 hours a night I would feel rejuvenated, refreshed and ready to start the day. I once read somewhere that if you are feeling sad or down to get outside and breath fresh air with a smile on your face. I can most certainly guarantee the smile isn't always there, but something I do strive. Due to our odd warm weather today (84 degrees--yippee) I put on my workout clothes for the second time today. I did so alacrity in order run along with and chat next to my husband. (unfortunately he wasn't feeling the same vibe about running).

Alacrity /n./ 2. Most of my friends have tendencies to be alacrity in so many things, some more than others. I remember one friend particularly in high school that everyone LOVED to be around. She made everyone feel like they were her closest friends. This is definitely a trait that is far and few between (especially in high-school). I haven't spoken to her in years other than an annual Christmas card. Funny, the first person I thought of reading the definition to this word was Amanda.

Nothing like a little deep thought with snail trails.

Alacrity /n./ 3. I really covet my Monday's and Wednesday's. These are the days that I only have one child in tow. Most of the time Weston is quite pleasant and very easy going with the one on one time with mom. I do love his spunk for life, just not on the days I need him to be the complete opposite. I met up with Angie with Ellice at Red Robin today (she treated--so nice!) for lunch. However, because Weston decided to double his dose of alacrity behavior (he was running around Red Robin in circles like a race track) Our lunch was, lets just say a little more adventurous than I bargained for.

My first set and only set of scriptures (hence the maiden name)

Alacrity /n./ 4. I know many have spoken about President Hinckley on their blogs and what a wonderful, prophet, seer and revelator he was. I couldn't agree more. It also dawned on me yesterday as I was sitting in on our lesson in relief society just how long this man served, and always with such alacrity. He was placed in the quorum of the 12 apostles in 1961. It definitely made me reevaluate my attitude on the "simple" callings I have had or have in the church. Who am I to complain over running a ward activity or even being on a committee? I am almost certain the men called as former prophets weren't even considering asking to be released. Wow, 13 years of service! (the age of my "new" member scriptures) This doesn't even include all the other years of service Gordon B. Hinckley did. As much as I will miss him, I look forward to our newly formed Presidency of President Monson, Utchdorf, and Eyring.

blessing: a comfy bed to sleep in.

Word Of The Week

deportment
/n./ a manner of personal conduct; behavior. actions. bearing. mannerism. mien. air or appearance. demeanor.

deportment /n./ 1. I couldn't help but have an extra spring in my step last Friday knowing that Monday was a holiday. Oddly, I have come to enjoy a break in the early morning school routines. Monday came and started out so very lovely. Really. Unfortunately, it didn't end that way. My children's deportment sent Doug and I into a serious mode of anger. (this didn't help that he had a terrible day at work & no food in his system) Needless to say a lot of hollering & gnashing of teeth came about as well as several tears shed. I couldn't help but shed a few myself, I secretly felt bad for punishing them, especially after sorry notes were written and sincere apologies were said. Are we terrible parents? What causes are children to have such behavior? Surely, our rules are crystal clear. Um, apparently not. I was gently reminded in FHE by my sweet husband last night that we must choose our deportment wisely. Since every choice (good or bad) ALWAYS has a consequence, we came up with a schedule that they are to follow for the next three days. Any extra activity outside of school is banned for this week. Unfortunately, today also happens to be Jared's birthday. Such is life eh?

deportment /n./ 2. For the most part my kids really aren't that bad. (or as bad as I may make them out to be) Perhaps *more spirited* on some days is a better word? They are also good at catching me off guard by altering their deportment to the point I am pulling out my hair! Weston has not had a potty accident since November. Let me clarify "accident". We haven't had any *brown packages* since then (and I am not talking UPS) However, Friday Weston's deportment had me shaking my head. He came in with all smiles (I was on the phone of course) and said in the most boastful voice. "I poopted my pants mom!!" I shook the first incident off, set backs happen right? Well, then incident #2, and 3 occurred over the next couple of days. At this rate my kids (Taylor, Jared, and Weston) deportment is going to land me in the psyche unit! Don't worry Luke won't be making this post.

deportment /n./ 3. Saturday my 8 year old son has chosen to become a member of our church. I have been in the midst of planning, preparing and getting ready for this big event. It dawned on me today that really all of the "making everything perfect" (invitations, cake, etc) leading up to this doesn't even matter. What IS important is the actual ordinance my husband will be doing for our son this week. This flashes me back to my own deportment of getting baptized nearly 13 years ago. What a blessing it is to have the knowledge of the gospel in my own life. I am by no means perfect, but what is comforting is that based on my personal deportment here on earth we CAN live with our Heavenly Father again.

Word of the Week: Charily

I am taking my own challenge of "learning" a new word each week, and jumping on April's bandwagon. I will admit writing this was much more difficult than I imagined I wrote it very charily.

charily /adv./ gingerly, carefully. warily. guardedly. cautiously. also sparingly or frugally.

charily /adv./ 1. I would like to think my choice of music is chosen in the utmost charily fashion. After all, most of the music I listen to in my car is on the xm radio, which means it is "altered" without the swear words. (I do realize that you can certainly insert the word obviously, but still...) The **ah hah** moment occurred to me as I was making up my list of fav's for my sidebar. I was appalled not only at the music, but myself for allowing my ears to hear it. You see, I enjoy music whole heartedly, especially around my house. In my defense when I upload music to my ipod on itunes I ALWAYS choose the "clean version" over the other choices. What I did not realize was some of the music I was used to listening to "edited" was not so on the playlist website. I double checked most, BUT if you choose to listen to my music on the sidebar consider yourself warned :)

can you say junk and more junk?

charily /adv./ 2. Doug and I have added on a few extra pounds from the Christmas holidays *sigh* which is causing us to rethink charily how we eat. Doug has much more will power than I. He has disciplined himself into counting points and staying clear from sweets. Me not so much. I would much rather live on wheat thins and diet coke (with a few tootsie rolls in between) for the day rather than take the time to eat healthy. Trust me I pay the price for how I eat, I can feel it in my skin, mood, and how I feel. We all know saying one thing and doing another is completely hypocritical. Unfortunately, this photo speaks volumes at how our family eats. No nutrition. Whatsoever. Anyone need ice? How about an eggo, (my kids would live on these frozen things) ice-cream cows, or some broccoli normandy? If you didn't notice this is my written confession of being a junk food addict. I do have people who will back me up on this one. Judge charily. :)

current state of our freezer

charily /adv./ 3. It is so interesting to me that having 3 of the same sex can result in so much variety and personality. Don't boys have only one mold, wild and loud? I have learned otherwise. Luke is the child that does everything charily. From eating, to playing, even down to creating and drawing. He does things meticulously and slow. He did FINALLY learn to ride his bike (we worked for months on this--bring out the brass band!) I have decided that Weston is much to young for me to form such an opinion, his mold is still in the works. So, I will give him another year, perhaps pre-school to determine my thoughts. Jared on the other hand, has a creative side I never would have foreseen. He never showed such a side as a smaller child. He takes great pride in his school projects and has the best handwriting for a 2nd grader (seriously).

practicing his words tonight

The other day while I was on the computer blogging away, he came in with the most enthusiastic voice, "you have to come quick I made you something!" I got up and found this masterpiece he had charily been working on for the past hour. I must admit it was quite creative. Harder to see from the below viewpoint, but he had made an entire city out of construction paper.

Notice the pink diving board into the blue pool below
also, one of the signs read welcome to Walmart the best place to shop--ha!

I am feeling smarter already. Who knew I could use a word I have never heard and incooperate it into our everyday life? Oh, and just so you know my glasses weren't even on.
