SPT Washing Hands

Me with Ladmo
(back row with braces--eek!)

I grew up watching the Wallace and Ladmo show. If anyone lived in Arizona as a child they probably would admit to be a follower of the show as well. You can bet each morning I plopped myself at 7am in front of the television to listen to "ho ho ha ha hee hee ho ho....."They would do skits in between showing commercials. I loved it because they showed all my favorites, Woody Wood Pecker, Pink Panther, and Tom&Jerry. But the show was best known for the "Ladmo bag." Everyone wanted a Ladmo bag including myself. One of the ways to get one was to be in a cub scouts pack, win one by phone through a drawing or send a photograph in of you and your pet. I am not sure what took me so long to do it, but I finally did in 6th grade. When the phone call came from the KPHO studios I was pretty stoked, I may have been the oldest kid to receive a Ladmo Bag, but I was going to be on television and get one!

Me & "Boomer"

I brought up this particular show because the network that hosted had some pretty cheesy commercials back in the day. But, the tunes were oh, so catchy! One in particular that I remember vividly was one about being clean and not spreading diseases. (I wish I could find it)

"Wash you hands after going to the bathroom,
Wash your hands after changing babies too,
Cause' we don't want to spread Hepatitis,
and we don't want Hepatitis to catch you, Who? Y-O-U!"

Mom helping Luke in the public restroom
(you can guarantee this happens every time we are out and about)

"Wash your hands!" I think would rank up as one of the top phrases in my home. Now that we have a dog I use it even more. The other times you find me nagging this phrase is getting home from school, after going potty, eating a meal, etc. According to experts we should wash our hands as long as it takes to sing the ABC's two times through. There is just nothing better than the smell of clean hands--especially since we use them for EVERYTHING! Thank goodness we even have other means of washing our hands if water and soap aren't around. Purel is most always in my purse as well.

good deed: stopped to give directions to someone.

he he ha ha ho ho ha ha!

I love Wallace and Ladmo too! I was managing the Dairy Queen on Bell and 36th Street when Pat McMahon came through the drive through. Of course none of the teeny bopper kids working had any idea who it was. I was star struck. This was only about 9 years ago, but who does not love all his characters? I sing the hand washing song all the time to my girls. I love it!

With two people posting about it, the hand washing song must really be something to stick with you! Too funny! Where's the Ladmo bag now, =)?

HOLY COW! That song is ALWAYS in my head! One of those things you can never erase. I remember looking up "hepatitis" because we were singing about it long before I had any clue what it was.

But my real question is...what was in the Ladmo Bag???!

I had completely forgotten about Ladmo. So funny! And I don't remember that song, but it's hilarious that it was directed at kids with "hepatitis" in it!

There's that great song again! :)
Love your SPT with Luke! Public restrooms are horrible, but I confess I carry hand sanitizer wipes, because I often have a baby in my arms, while I'm trying to help my preschooler and the wipes are easier (probably not as effective). Oh well...

I don't remember a thing about Wallace and Ladmo except their names. But boy did the mention of their names take me back.

We don't wash hands around here, that's what swimming is for. (seriously, kidding.)

OK, that hepatitus song played up in the NW of the US, when I was in grade school. They used to have classrooms sing it for the TV - something like that. I seriously could sing that song right now and know all the words! So hilarious that you remember this! Great post jennY!

Who knew anyone could do such a fun post about hand washing! I've never heard of Wallace and Ladmo. How cute that you sent in a photo and got the bag. The song cracks me up.

Love it, remember it and dreamed of a ladmo bag of my own. You lucky duck! Yes, what was in the little brown bag? Funny, I also remember that catchy little song.

I must confess I have never heard of Ladmo Show...it sounds funny. I love the picture of your mom washing LUCAS hands...that is always a treat. Alf almost never washes anyone's hads because of his back problems, the same as my mom...but sometimes it is just a treat to have someone else do it once in awhile

I miss Wallace and Ladmo. We were just talking the other day how great that show was. I used to watch it in the mornings before school while eating my cereal and dreaming of being on it. I was always jealous of the kids getting the Ladmo Bags. By the way, what was in your bag? I've always wondered what they were full of.

I'm a clean hands nazi around here too. My boys are finally getting the hang of it. I keep Purell everywhere. Gotta love hand sanitizer! It's so handy.

Oh, I so remember how jealous I was that you got a Ladmo bag and I didn't;) I guess I received a shirt, though!

I have to say that I am a freak about washing my hands too and I couldn't imagine living without Purel now! I wash my hands so much at work that my skin peels at the end of the day-gross, huh?

It was great talking to you today-until Aaron took the phone-hee! hee! I hope you had a good day and I wish you could have been in Cali with us, too! I didn't take very many pictures-so no, I don't have any of the house:( You have to see it in person anyway-pictures don't do it justice!
